⋇ about
most of my bios say something like "your local cisgender they/she. chronically employed, gainfully online". the rest of my bios is needed for my computer to boot properly. i live in san diego and am typically found there
⋰ specs
i7 13700k, rx 7800xt, 4.5mg EV/5 days, 100mg prog nightly, no gigabytes of ddr5, four desk plants, one civic, HD 660S, three pocketknives, one glass cube (never been licked), one salt cube (i plead the fifth), and zero rack units remaining
⋰ work
these days i trade vitamin d for money as an it support tech for a local msp. longer term, i want to specialize in infrastructure engineering or sysadmin work
⋰ hobbyz
i spend my other hours dabbling in photography (film and digital), bass (not the kind that comes from the ocean), other silly sounds (rapidly descending into the madness of modular synth), homelabbing (ask me about my rack), geoguessr (to a fault), crosswords (love me a good thursday not giving the nyt money btw), radio (i have a baofeng and a meshtastic node), microsoft flight simulator (nerd!!), and small coding projects (slipping through the cracks of a rapidly ossifying internet)
i want to learn more about nixos, read more (especially fiction), and stay nspm-7 compliant
check out some of my photos i kinda like
⋰ interests
i majored in math in college and want to keep those skills honed. i have a pile of papers that i want to read. one that i enjoyed recently was this one on creating venn diagrams with more than 3 circles (a topic that's kept me up at night) which brought up a very satisfying link between topology and combinatorics. thank god for the jordan curve theorem.
the favicon for this site (and my pfp on some accounts) is a screenshot from this excellent video about double pendulums. i know nothing about the actual numerical work behind chaos theory but goddamn does it have good vibes. anything involving the edge between order and chaos (see graph percolation phase transitions for another example) really scratches an itch in my brain. send me your favorite mandelbrot set regions
my preferred object to categorize and memorize information about is planes
⋰ reads
the universe is often inconvenient. this sucks but i find it compelling. Gödel, Escher, Bach by Douglas Hofstadter (colloquially known as The Tome) is a fun read that ties together self-reference and self-replication across a swath of fields and ways of looking at the world. it's the same inconvenient truth behind gödel's incompleteness theorem, the halting problem, and why a brain can't understand itself fully no matter how many "meta"s you put in front of your cognition.
i'm working through The Age Of Surveillance Capitalism by Shoshanna Zuboff and realizing maybe this whole technology thing was doomed from the start :/
Solutions and Other Problems by Allie Ward. one of my favorite webcomics, in print form? sign me up.
⋰ listens
i'll kinda listen to whatever, i generally bounce between genres and tasting a little of everything. these days i'm listening to a lot of sextile, tr/st, caroline polachek (and her side project - ramona lisa), magdalena bay, underscores, and SOPHIE (getting into her far later than i should have).
i'm not big on categorizing and tracking the media i'm into. that said, i made one of those fun album grid thingies of my favorite albums right now. ask me about any of them
some smaller artists that you should give some love! -
- Alira Mun (check out Eclipsa)

- mr. robot
- the chair company
- how to with john wilson
